Check out this delicious dish to start experiencing the benefits of a Mediterranean diet right away!

My mother has been making this grilled tunisian salad since I was five years old. It is a nutritious Mediterranean salad.

It only requires tomatoes, peppers (both grilled), a chilli pepper (which should be included for its spicy flavor), some garlic, and spice, making it a must-try dish for the new year (salt and black pepper).

Although the salad can be eaten on its own, it is commonly served with toasted bread or baguette slices (don’t forget the spicy harissa). It is rather common to have it served alongside a variety of appetizers in traditional Tunisian restaurants.

What you’ll need for this recipe(tools):

I recommend to use a sharp knife to cut the peppers and tomatoes.

mechouia salad

grilled mediterranean vegetables in Mechouia Salad:

Mechouia Salad, a tasty and well-known Tunisian salad, is often prepared using a variety of grilled vegetables, including bell peppers, tomatoes, and onions.

The vegetables are then diced and mixed with a variety of spices, including cumin, paprika, and harissa, the spicier chili sauce.

One of the main elements of the salad is the use of grilled vegetables. The vegetables are usually grilled over an open flame, which gives them a smokey, somewhat charred flavor. Using this cooking method also softens the vegetables and brings out their natural sweetness.

Tunisian Salad Step By Step Instructions:

  1. On a plate, arrange the tomatoes, onions, peppers, garlic, and peppers. To toast them, bake them.
  2. Once the vegetables are cooked on both sides, peel and seed the tomatoes and peppers. Peel the cloves of garlic and onion.
  3. They can be easily processed in a blender or chopped.
  4. Add ground caraway and coriander for flavor. Olive oil and lemon juice are added. Salt.

Tunisian Salad Add-Ons:

Fresh herbs, such parsley or cilantro, are a common addition to mechouia salad. These herbs give the salad a vibrant, fresh flavor and a splash of color.

Feta cheese is a wonderful complement to Mechouia Salad. Feta cheese’s creamy and tangy flavor blends perfectly with the grilled vegetables’ smokey and slightly scorched flavor. This is the ideal approach to give the salad a little bit of protein and a rich, creamy texture.

A terrific approach to give the salad some crunch and depth of flavor is to add some nuts, like toasted almond or pine nuts. Additionally, they add a nutty, slightly sweet flavor that blends well with the salad’s spice blend.

Dried fruits like raisins or apricots can be be used in the salad if you like a sweeter flavor. They offer a tasty counterpoint to the salad’s hot and smoky aromas.

Tunisian Salad Basic Tips:

Simply omit the chilli pepper if you don’t want the mechouia salad to taste very spicy.

If you feel that your salad is a little bit dry, add little olive oil before serving.

Use goods that have been certified to be gluten-free whenever possible to make this dish gluten-free. Regular wheat bread can be used in place of pita bread.

Tunisian Salad Storage:

It’s great to prepare this dish a few hours ahead of time and eat it all day.

Before putting this dish on the table, cut all of the ingredients if you wish to save any for leftovers.

Store the vegetables separately to prevent them from absorbing the excess liquid from the salad. Put all of the ingredients in an airtight container to keep them fresh for later use.

I suggest using the leftovers within two days of preserving them.

Mechoui Salad Usage and Serving:

Mechouia Salad is often served as a side dish or as a topping for sandwiches and pizzas. It can also be served as a main dish, accompanied with Tunisian bread, or couscous. It is a perfect salad for vegans and vegetarians and is also a great way to incorporate more vegetables into your diet.

Another way to serve this mechoui salad is to cut similar pieces of bred(like toast bread) and to toast your salad in those bread with some harissa of course and some green or black olives,Yummy,Already hungry for this😀 😉

Important tip:It’s preferably to cut the meditarean vegetables with you own hands to have the perfect texture you want, running them in the blender my result in runny vegetables.
